Painter, sculptor, draughtsman and poster designer. Born in London. He initially studied medicine, but gave this up to study art at the Slade School of Fine Art, 1910–12, where he was a member of a notable group of students working under Henry Tonks, Philip Wilson Steer, Fred Brown and Walter Westley Russell. He designed posters for British Railways.
