A Norwegian burr birch peg tankard, 18th century

The cover carved in relief with the figure of a goose, the scrolling handle with crouching lion thumbpiece, raised on three crouching lion feet, the interior interior calibrated with three pegs - 6in. (15.3 cm) high, overall

The tankard was purchased with an old handwritten note inscribed “16th Century Drinking Mug of Norwegian Peasant workmanship given to Sigrid Russell Herd bu Arthur & Kitty Schjelderup Cepperuch Hønefoss’’. However the tankard is probably 18th century.

Condition: Good. No obvious damages.
